Collection of furniture and objects by Carles Riart

The veteran furniture maker, who rejects the label of “designer” sums in La Sala Vinçon twenty years of creating furniture designed with his back to dominant market tastes.

On Charles Riart’s “bench” you can sit down, as if on the verge of a Mallorcan stone wall, with your feet dangling; lying on your side; in the same way rippled sand on the beach suggests; you can lie down, looking at the sky, on an earthy slope; or simply sit with your feet on the ground.

In other furniture featured by Carles Riart in La Sala Vinçon, the same ingenuity cannot be found, because each one has its own: the “Chaise Longue” is a velvety interior gondola with a potent gesture, the “Estandarte” puts you in its focus, the “Telón de Fondo” is deep as you want it to be, the “Sillón de Lectura” with a single-arm, does not encase comfort…The ingenuity Riart shows in this furniture and in others created previously, is not so much in the ingenious detail but more in the whole piece. They have poetic, constructive, ingenious use.

Somewhere in the field of design and determined to make new furniture, Riart presents a collection of new pieces because he has decided to form them: so that they would become real furniture and not drawings on paper. They are also unique because Riart is not a furniture producer and he wants to continue creating new models. With 16 years of work behind him (counting from the first listed exhibition), in these recent furniture pieces Riart appears more elegant, more cheerful and more sparsely concentrated than ever.
