Muñeca Barbie. Colección Alta Costura

Mattel

18/11/91. (Sala 133)

From 18 November – 7 December 1991, Mattel España S.A. presents the Barbie Haute Couture Collection in La Sala Vinçon.

In this engaging exhibition, a group of the most famous designers in the world of fashion will present an exclusive collection of models created especially for Barbie. On this occasion well known creators such as Guy Laroche, Cacharel, Balenciaga, Nina Ricci, Michel Klein, Angelo Tarlazzi and Junko Shimada, among others dress the most famous doll in the world.

Barbie will also sport some models designed this year 1991 by renowned names from the Spanish couture world like Roberto Verino, voted “Best Designer” in Cibeles 91, Antonio Miró, Armand Basi, Ramón Ramis and Lydia Delgado. Two models are presented: Barbie Solo Porcelain in the Spotlight and Barbie Porcelana Parisian, of which only 300 units of each were to be sold in Vinçon, Barcelona and La Continental, Madrid.

These very special versions of the doll are an exact replica of the first Barbie created in 1959 and are completely handmade, taking care of the smallest detail. The handmade make-up on her face follows the beauty standards of the 50’s and 60’s, and her outfits and dresses reflect the elegance of the party nights of that nostalgic era. The refined lingerie, combining lace and satin bows, gives them a touch of sophistication.

Barbie has been a source of inspiration for the creation of hairstyles, jewelry, make-up and haute couture dresses. This is also confirmed by the design made for her by the prestigious couturier Manuel Pertegaz in 1988, to commemorate her ten years in the Spanish market.
