Hipermerc’art

Colectivo artistas

12/12/91. (Sala 134)

HIPERMERC’ART burst into the cultural scene of the city with an exhibition of the artists of the moment -first painters, later also sculptors and photographers- and a revolutionary and different way of seeing and buying ART.

The recreation of a self-service store with all its characteristic elements – information at a glance, everything could be touched, metal baskets, prices, paying at the cash register, etc. – was intended to bring the world of art and artists closer to the public. Each author presented about 60 works, only originals, small format, in three sizes, with their certificate and with prices below their price. Art affordable to all pockets.

The intention was to provoke, to break barriers and clichés, to question prejudices about the world of ART, and therefore of culture.

HIPERMERC’ART paved the way, set trends and made history. A history that since its origin, based on an idea that Jean-Pierre Guillemot had in 1983, has been active for 35 years and 35 editions.

From 1990 until the closure of Vinçon in 2015, Natalia Foguet and Àngels Garcia led the project and artistic curatorship of HIPERMERC’ART. They established an annual appointment with La Sala Vinçon for 25 consecutive editions. Always at Christmas time, when the store multiplied its customers, making it the most commercial of the exhibitions.
