Muebles imposibles

Alessandro Mendini

11/05/76. (Sala 050)

Alessandro Mendini, architect, industrial designer and editor of design magazines such as Casabella, Manera and Domus, presents at La Sala Vinçon a collection of pieces that go beyond the usual use.

A single sculptural piece in the middle of the room, the “Rosa” chair, and on the walls the original drawings of the entire Impossible Furniture collection.

A chair fused to a truncated pyramid, a table with a tabletop split in half, a pyramid stool, a chair on a tall staircase, to be made in different types of materials: ebony, bronze, stone or glass.

His design was always characterized by his interest in mixing different cultures and forms of expression, fleeing from the conventional, focusing more on concept and creativity than on functionality.

Impossible furniture, with no value of normal use, but understood as objects of spiritual use. Breaking with the sobriety of the modern movement to acclaim the creative freedom and what he calls “useful art”.
