Aparicions tingudes a alta mar…

Josep Brugalla

01/10/76. (Sala 052)

From 1 – 19 October 1976

With the title “Aparicions tingudes a alta mar la tercera nit del primer diumenge d’Advent de l’any del Congrés Eucarístic de Barcelona” Brugalla, whose activity oscillates between conceptual art, design and craftsmanship, presents 6 sculptural units, made according to the technique of Olot (manufacture in cardboard paste and polychrome wood).

His intention is a clear criticism of the spiritual degradation of churches in general and their institutions in particular. Always with a certain sense of humor,

Base and figures form a unit. The base is always in the form of a table, covered by a tablecloth that represents the sea and that on the upper surface forms waves from which the figures emerge.

The subjects represented:
– 5 bishops placed on a cushion floating in the sea, and other religious emerging from the waters.
– Torso of a bishop surrounded by a float, bearing the inscription “Scuola Nautica de Roma”.
– Torso of St. Francis of Assisi emerging from the water, holding in his hands the fabulous animal formed by the torso of Pius XII and the body of a horse.
– The same as the previous one but instead of a bishop, 2 nuns with wings.
– Torso of the Child Jesus swimming.
