Signes

14/06/04. (Sala 223)

Signes was born in the eighties of the last century, the decade that was known as the design boom in Spain due to its media repercussion, which was good for the profession but which generated a certain amount of derision in society, summarized in the popular “do you study or do you design? Fortunately, today the designer’s profession no longer raises those comments of yesteryear. Many people now know that designers exist and that they are not only part of that universe of the superfluous that is generally related to luxury objects. They play an important social role.

Signes is a company at the service of designers and, by extension, of society. A corporate identity and signage implementation company that has been working for almost three decades with the best design studios in the country to signpost all kinds of public and private spaces. A company that has done almost everything and that still has time and desire to worry about the youngest, those emerging designers who also strive to grow in an increasingly difficult and competitive profession.

As a result of this concern, Signes created the Signes Foundation, a private and independent non-profit foundation whose social purpose is the promotion and development of design, mainly graphic and industrial. For ten years -a round and celebratory figure- it organized the Signes Award for design students, a national and international call for entries, whose objective was to promote among future designers a concern for research and the search for new archetypes in their field of activity.

To that concern we owe the privilege of having won awards such as the National Design Award or the Prince Felipe Award for Business Excellence. That’s what we like to think, because Signes is a company like so many others in this country, which battles every day to continue working in the trade it loves. Some make chairs, others carpets or shoes, and we are reflected in the signs. We all work hand in hand with designers with the desire to build a world that is a little more comfortable.
