Diego Ramos Carrascosa + RepRapBCN

An installation which is in constant growth thanks to the ability of 3D printers.

The installation held in La Sala Vinçon is based on the ability of RepRap BCN3D+ printers to produce plastic parts in a straightforward way without the need of a complex industrial structure by using fused deposition modeling technology (FDM).

The flexibility in the manufacturing process allows these printers to produce domestic and industrial parts to scale at a low cost and in a short time.

This production capacity along with the fact that the printers are made of plastic parts, leads to printers being able to produce the necessary elements for self-cloning. On this premise, a space which is in constant evolution will open to the public on February 25th. From this moment a BCN3D + RepRap printer will start printing the necessary parts for the manufacturing of other printers, the key parts for the construction of expository modules and other elements that make up the assembly area.

La Sala Vinçon will become a workshop, a production space that will allow viewers to see live the production process, the construction of printers and expository supports as well as the developments in the installation setup.

The process will culminate on March 5th with a cocktail presentation, although the exhibition will remain open until the 8th.

Diego Ramos Carrascosa (Barcelona, 1978) after specializing in product design at Design college Eina, Barcelona, he continued his studies undertaking a Masters in Design Products at the Royal College of Art (London).

Currently, with his studio based in Barcelona, his career approach allows him to work in the field of product design and establish collaborations with professionals from other creative fields to address challenges that question, investigate and solve specific problems with the help of innovative processes. With this vision, his work approaches other areas of design and different disciplines. An example of his professional talent are his private projects that seek to explore everyday life and question the role of design in our “objectual environment”.

He also carries out workshops at design colleges to come closer to new generations of designers and learn different ways of understanding design from a different perspective.

His projects have been part of exhibitions in Mexico, Brazil, London, Washington, Tokyo, Madrid or Barcelona and other cities.

He combines his professional career with an active role in promotional design structures such as ADI-FAD or the “Surtido” platform.

Currently, he is a curator for ADI-FAD in the first DEMO edition of “Exploring new creational processes”, a series of activities that are structured around the new creative processes of collaboration and production focused in the context of product design.

The RepRapBCN project forms part of the RepRap project, created by the CIM Foundation in late 2011.

During these years of activity, RepRapBCN has spread 3D printing technology, generated changes to existing models and has finally designed its own machine called BCN3D+. The project is non -profit making and is mostly made ​​up of students who design and sell the machines. This market provides the necessary resources to have a design team that contributes knowledge to the global RepRap network contributing their part so that technology continues to evolve.

RepRap (Replicating Rapid Prototyping) is an Open Hardware project that aims to develop 3D printing machines at a low cost and self-replicating. Born in England in 2006, it currently has the participation of universities, companies and individuals around the world to improve the technical aspects of the machine. The technique used is FDM (fused deposition modeling) that allows plastic parts to be obtained in a few hours.
