Droog Design

01/10/98. (Sala 184)

The debut of this team of Dutch conceptual design designers was in 1993, during the International Furniture Fair in Milan, with a showcase of products created by young Dutch designers.

They presented a selection of sober designs made from industrial materials and found objects. The presentation was titled “Droog Design” because of the simplicity and dry mood of the objects. Droog in Dutch means “dry”.

Today five years later they have a wide range of products under the name Droog Design. They work with independent designers to project and realize products, exhibitions, projects and events. They have worked with artists such as Marcel Wanders, Hella Jongerius, Remy Tejo, Richard Hutten, Annink EdyJurgen Bey, among others.

The exhibition consists of very diverse products, from functional tiles for the bathroom, lamps, chairs, a doorbell made of wine glasses…

French architect Jean Nouvel defined Droog Design in the 1995 International Book of Design as: “There is a strong ascetic element of anti-design”. Often present, combined with a subtle re-evaluation of design concepts, executed with basic materials and plain colors.
