Bigas Luna. Comediants

28/03/73. (Sala 002)

Assembly made with a group of 7 people and 9 objects.

“Instinctive and surprising connoisseur of human psychological reality, Bigas Luna does not limit himself to exposing objects to be observed, but prepares a situation where each one inescapably contributes interactions and subjectivities”. This is how psychiatrist Fàbregas Poveda defines the unclassifiable film director and creator Bigas Luna.

The objects placed on the gallery floor correspond to furniture designed by Bigas Luna, unstable tables finished with an imitation of black veined marble.

A group of 7 actors moved around the hall as if they were the normal public. They performed repulsive actions (screaming, fainting, insults…) in order to create unrest in the spectators, who entered the room one at a time. This action was provocative, on one hand it played with the totally white aesthetic ambience of the hall where objects with a luxurious appearance were exhibited and on the other hand the unawareness of the visitors.

The aim of this experiment was to get normal things to act in an unusual way, causing a reaction in the public, who were in an unexpected situation in an art gallery.

Realization of 1 film and audio recordings during the exhibition were made.

Salvador Dalí was in love with one of the tables, he placed it in his Museum, next to  the Mae West space.
