Santiago Calatrava

03/03/88. (Sala 097)

Presentation of furniture designed by architect, engineer and sculptor from Valencia.

Born in Valencia and living in Switzerland for several years. Santiago Calatrava, merges into a surprising coexistence, four different professional activities: architecture, engineering, sculpture and design.

Santiago Calatrava has a degree in architecture from the University of Valencia and a PhD in engineering from the University of Zurich. Last year he was awarded the Auguste Perret prize by the International Union of Architects.

After several years of intense activity in other countries, he is currently carrying out his first projects in Spain. Barcelona has recently learnt about his two contributions: the bridge linking Felipe II with Bach de Roda and the metal indicators of the reversible lanes on Diagonal. An admirer of the great works of engineering such as the Eiffel Tower and of architectural solutions by Carlo Mollino and Antonio Gaudí, he presents his latest furniture designs in La Sala Vinçon.

To know about Santiago Calatrava’s work at large, we recommend the extensive monograph dedicated to this multifaceted character found in issue number 82 in the ON magazine.
