TONI CATANY, their goddesses and gods.

An exhibition is opened today at La Sala Vinçon. It was considered by the Life magazine as one of the top two Spanish photographers and major Tokyo stores ask for still life on roses for a calendar.

Nevertheless, Toni Catany (Llucmajor, Mallorca, 1942) admits: “If I had a family I would experience problems to make a living out of my profession. They are not traded fairly and museums are still debating whether artists occasionally take photographs, or if there are photographers who are artists”.

The 60 photographs in La Sala Vinçon show a special technique. Catany first made slides which he later transfered onto Polaroid film, 18×24, which was then put on to watercolour paper or silk”.  The pictures on display make an impression for their pastel tones, typical of a painter rather than a photographer.
