Richard Sapper was born in 1932 in Munich. After studying engineering, philosophy, anatomy, graphics and economics, he found a job in the styling department at Mercedes Benz in Stuttgart.

In 1958 he decided to move to Milan and collaborated with Gio Ponti and Marco Zanuso. Sapper and Zanuso designing some of the most famous “cult” objects known in this period, such as the Brion Vega”Doney 14” television (1962) or the “Grillo” telephone (1965).

Sapper provided German engineering to Milan manufacturers. His main interest has always been the design of technically complex objects. In recent years he has primarily engaged with the design of computers, office furniture, lighting systems for companies such as Artemide, Knoll International, IBM, etc.

His system of work is reflected in this sentence he once said: “There is nothing as difficult as doing something simply perfect”.

40 design projects by Richard Sapper made between 1958 and 1988 are shown at La Sala Vinçon.
