McClure\u2019s jewellery interprets the body at the microscopic level to reflect our humanity in an era of medical advancement. The fields of biology, pathology and genetics inspire his work and reveal our increasingly digital, biotechnological understanding of life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Formats and concepts from the history of jewellery and ornamentation ground his contemporary reflection on the human body. In wearing McClure\u2019s jewellery, the invisible body becomes visible adornment.<\/p>\n

Artist Statement:<\/p>\n

Cells<\/i> is an exhibition of jewelry inspired by microscopic images of the human body. Magnetic brooches of silver, copper, gold, colored resins and gems represent various cells, structures and pathogens. Created to adorn the body, this work is intended to promote a deeper look at the world we cannot see. At a time of pandemic disease and biotechnological advancement, Cells<\/i> explores the nexus between science and art.<\/p>\n

The centerpiece of this exhibition, Acquired Immune Deficiency Virus,<\/i> was created to coincide with the XIV International AIDS Conference-Barcelona AIDS 2002.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
